Prior to joining Shirley Parsons, I spent the first 8 years of my career at an IT recruitment firm, where I was the top biller/producer in the company’s history.

I was born in South Korea, spent my teenage years in Australia, came to the U.S. for college and ended up finding my home in Los Angeles.

I am currently a father to 4 little doggies and will be married eventually to my lovely fiancée.

Shirley Parsons has partnered exclusively with The Port of Virginia in a search for their Vice President of Health, Safety & Environment, to lead the EHS function, based in Norfolk, VA. Reporting directly to the COO, the Vice President of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) will be responsible for developing and implementing health, safety, and environmental strategies to ensure the well-being of the port’s employees, represented workforce, key stakeholders, and the communities in which they operate. This role is responsible for influencing the port’s culture towards world-class by minimizing injury risks and integrating health, safety and environmental programs across the Port of Virginia. ***This is an on-site position in Norfolk, VA that will require highly visible leadership, therefore a remote setup is not available for this role*** The Role: Provides leadership and direction to the HSE team, to include training, coaching, and mentoring, ensuring that goals and objectives are met.Maintains current knowledge of developments in health, safety, and environmental fields, and changes in federal, state, and local laws and regulations.Influences the port’s culture through health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, training, and programs, following regulatory requirements and leading practices.Conducts regular program audits and inspections to assess compliance with HSE policies and regulations and improvement opportunities.Collects, measures, and analyzes enterprise and site-specific HSE metrics and performance indicators to identify trends for continuous improvement and corrective measuresCollaborates with other departments to integrate HSE considerations into business processes and decision-making.Provides leadership for all aspects of enterprise safety monitoring at port facilities. This includes defining requirements, securing federal grant funding, and directing the acquisition, deployment, and employment of terminal-based mobile equipment video monitoring systems, as well as overseeing the development and implementation of state-of-the-art technology.Leads the development and implementation of the port’s environmental policies and initiatives to make positive traction toward improving air quality. The Candidate:  Minimum of 10 years of experience in a HSE leadership position, preferably in a heavy industrial environment, with strong knowledge of HSE regulations and standards, including OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulationsDemonstrated ability to perform in a fast-paced, dynamic, matrixed environment. Experience in a union environment is strongly preferred. Excellent leadership, communication and relationship-building skillsBachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field requiredCertified Safety Professional (CSP) or Master's degree preferred.

Environmental Manager

A national chemicals company is seeking to appoint an Environmental Manager to oversee a high-risk production facility at one of its key locations in the New Orleans, LA area. The incumbent will lead their environmental compliance and permitting systems, programs and strategy. The successful candidate will need a strong understanding of environmental compliance programs, tasked with developing and maintaining site environmental procedures.The Role: Oversee and manage all environmental compliance, reporting, permitting and certifications for the company; these include air permitting and reporting, spill prevention, hazardous waste, storm water and wastewater programs.Provide technical guidance and stay up to date on all relevant environmental standards and regulations that impact the organization, at federal, state and local level.Oversee and lead all environmental audits and collaborate with various stakeholders to implement corrective action plans, based on these findings.Act as liaison to local, state, and federal agencies and stakeholders. The Candidate: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental or Science/Engineering field is required.5+ years in relatable Environmental roles.Extensive knowledge with Air Permitting and regulations, including experience with Title V permits.Strong understanding of Hazwaste, Wastewater, Stormwater regulation requirements.Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage others.1+ years of managing a direct report.
