Biosafety Officer

Description

A world-renowned research institution is seeking a Biosafety Officer to manage aspects of its biosafety program, as well as develop new policies and procedures across laboratories. The Biosafety Officer will be working as part of the broader EHS team and will share responsibility for the biological safety program with many highly-talented individuals passionate about integrating world-class processes and systems across the organization.

The role:

  • Working closely with the Microbiological Safety Committee, researchers and other EHS staff
  • Developing and implementing biosafety training to researchers of all levels
  • Building strong relationships with researchers and PIs to ensure safe work practices
  • Managing the risk assessment process and assisting with addressing corrective actions identified during laboratory inspections
  • Directing the response and investigation of accidents or exposures involving biohazardous agents, coordinating with all regulatory agencies as required

The candidate:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience of biological safety in a research environment
  • Master's Degree in EHS, IH, lab safety, microbiology, molecular biology, biology or related discipline (Advanced Degree preferred)
  • Professional certification strongly preferred (Certified Biological Safety Professional, Registered Biosafety Professional)
  • Training experience and a background working with rDNA or infectious materials
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues to diverse clients
  • Ability to build and maintain strong collaborative and professional relationships with EH&S staff, Principal Investigators, researchers and clients
